This is great news. Milton Friedman said that what makes America great is our ability to avoid the limitations placed on capitalism by our government, and this is a great example of what he was talking about. Friedman also said if you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there would be a shortage of sand. This will be true for healthcare too. Soon these types of models will be absolutely critical in the delivery of health care to our citizenry. The feds will destroy the greatest health care system in the world for their own political and monetary gain.

Slates, the federal and state governments-- both Democrat and Republican-- are causing these models to materialize. Their zeal for ever-increasing control over the marketplace and individual healthcare decisions is outright dangerous. It would be best if patients and physicians can find a way out of this increasingly socialistic/fascist environment.

I do not think this model would be viable in Pediatrics - simply because we've descended so far into near socialist medicine as it is.

Mary, I think you might be surprised. In some states, Medicaid is not nearly as generous for kids as in North Carolina. Some communities have less penetration of Medicaid.

But I agree that in small town, rural or inner city North Carolina, this model would be tough because nearly all kids are on Medicaid these days. It's very sad.
