The reassons to keep Matheny out of consideration for the nomination are long and detailed, but the fact that Ed Cone and fellow self-appointed "expert"/elitists support Matheny is reason enough to disqualify the city councilman for consideration.

Wouldn't these enablers of bad government and sycophants love to have such an arrogant wannabee big shot Matheny to support their dangerous and destructive agendas?

One thing we've learned about Cone and his Usual suspects over the years is their uncanny knack for being reliably wrong about issues and policy, but never in doubt about their opinions.

Bob, of course, one key point about the nice things these people are saying about Matheny is that it is a reflection of who he really is. Few things speak louder than who your friends and allies are.

But he has a real shot if so many conservative candidates remain in the mix, and others enter. I really hope some of them start dropping out to avoid splintering the conservative vote. Otherwise, they might be handing the nomination to Matheny.

Here's a comment I posted at the Greensboro and Guilford County Politics Facebook page:

Matheny is the product of the abysmal 20% voter turnout in Greensboro's municipal elections. The Crony Capitalist Cabal knows that low turnouts work in their favor, and they're not really interested in improving citizen participation in elections.

In addition, it has been clear for more than a decade that they are NOT interested in accomplishing what's best for our city and our people. They're only interested in accomplishing what's best for themselves, and their elitist and entitled friends, and Matheny is a useful tool in facilitating that sort of thing.

I do not expect him to fare well outside of his comfortable and protected local cocoon. He has to face citizens who've likely never heard of him, people not easily fooled by the type of thing he represents.

In addition, there are at least three other candidates for the Republican nomination that will make him look foolish on the campaign trail. I also wonder if Matheny's deep pocketed pals are going to ante up the requisite cash needed to run a congressional campaign.

Some good points, Bob. I certainly hope Matheny cannot prevail in this primary, but without any good polling available to the public, it is hard to know where the candidates stand.

On the one hand, it would be good if the electorate knew precisely who he is. On the other hand, it would be better if they didn't know him at all.

Perhaps this document from the City of Greensboro will shine more light on Zack: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9h2K8JxTQUjZDJkX2l0UFUwS3NXOTc4RlZGeGs5YXIycW5N/edit

Dog gone it, wrong one. Try this one: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9h2K8JxTQUjQTBDY1BuZm5JMVpxMW5iTFFTNVlZS0xtVnhv/edit

And please stop calling them liberals. I'm a Liberal, they're Faux Liberals. Real liberals don't support giving money to the rich elites.

Billy, I stand corrected. I was referring to Greensboro's Melderec-style liberals, of which there are many. This includes the members of the Melderec crowd, and the local liberals that support the point of view they espouse.

Joe, it's an easy mistake. We both went through too many years of conditioning. I still sometimes confuse Republicans with RINOs and conservatives with libertarians. ;-)
