The media tell us that Governor Roy Cooper is a Democrat. But that descriptor is insufficient because the vast majority of Democrats now serving in public office are really socialists. Roy Cooper is one of them. The "Democrat" label is used to dull people's insight into what is truly happening.
Two examples of Cooper's died-in-the-wool socialism became evident this week.
First, he took a shot at the Trump administration because Obamacare enrollment is down in the state of North Carolina. Given the fact that Obamacare is a charity program, lower enrollment ought to be a cause of celebration-- but not according to Cooper's standard of values. He presumes that the Trump administration has an obligation to promote Obamacare aggressively. After all, socialist programs must remain populated.
Cooper thereby cheerfully assumes responsibility for the fact that the program he champions has hurt North Carolina residents who have lost their health care plans, lost their doctors and seen their insurance premiums skyrocket to the stratosphere.
Second, Civitas reports regarding his initiative to make community college tuition free in the state of North Carolina. It makes absolutely no sense to encourage young adults to attend community college when they have no "skin in the game". But redistributing income and creating entitlements is part of Cooper's worldview. It is the modus operandi.
The Obama presidency was an excellent test case to see whether socialism works well. The results are pretty obvious that it was an absolute disaster. But Roy Cooper remains undeterred. And he can rest assured that his Republican adversaries do not possess the courage to eliminate socialist programs for the most part. They occasionally sponsor their own socialism or intensify those forms already in place.
Time is therefore on the side of Cooper and his compatriots. They can score an occasional win and be sure that incremental socialism will always proceed in the direction they seek. It is just a matter of time.
