Today is the 100th anniversary of the consummation of the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia ultimately leading to the formation of the Soviet Union.
But in the city of Greensboro, today's election represents the Bolshevik takeover of municipal government. The two sole "moderates" who remain on the council were thrown out and replaced by candidates to their far left.
Tammi Thurm has defeated the sole Republican on the council, Tony Wilkins.
All other races were won by respective progressive/socialist incumbents.
Both of the women who won their races for the first time-- Kennedy and Thurm-- are committed leftists. Both support an impressive array of progressive/socialist positions with regard to city government, some of which do not even represent traditional municipal functions in the state of North Carolina. Ms. Kennedy boasts about her award from Nancy Vaughan's former Guilford Green crowd-- an LGBT group. Thurm is a Jewish lady whose views appear to be very much consistent with the worldview of contemporary Judaism.
This appears to be a big victory for Democracy Greensboro, the local socialist group, that has been very active in the municipal election this year.
For many people, now might be a really good time to get out of town. Better jurisdictions in which to live, with much lower taxes, can be found in nearly every direction.
