Yesterday's news struck like a jolt.
First, a Greensboro police officer was shot after making a traffic stop. This resulted in an exchange of gunfire that caused the death of the person who shot the officer. The police officer fortunately is in stable condition.
Second, Dejuan Yourse was arrested once again-- this time for domestic abuse. This is the fellow whose alleged mistreatment by police triggered a major reaction among city council members and various other forces including the "Rev." Nelson Johnson. The Guilford County Community PAC is the entity that attempts to elect anti-police council members like Nancy Vaughan.
The responsibility for that police shooting and the death of the young assailant is shared by Barack Obama and the craven, wrong-headed elected officials we have on our city council. Establishing an environment that vilifies police is a profound mistake; and these elected officials are guilty as charged. The anti-police forces we have locally-- Johnson, the Pulpit Forum, the PAC-- also can take a bow.
But special recognition also must be granted to the News and Record, which feeds the fire; and Triad City Beat, which plays a special role highlighting these issues.
One can justifiably arrive at the conclusion that all these folks got precisely the consequences of what they were trying to achieve yesterday.
