Item: UNC-CH basketball coach Roy Williams took a shot at HB 2 within the last several days and called it "ridiculous".
Item: Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski last year called HB 2 "embarrassing". NC State coach Mark Gottfried called it "appalling".
These men obviously work from within academia-- a notoriously ultraliberal environment. But in the case of Williams and Gottfried, their cushy jobs and big salaries are enabled by the state taxpayer who provide the wherewithal for the existence of the programs they help lead.
And what do the people of North Carolina think?
They feel that the STATE should be setting the standards regarding anti-discrimination measures... NOT localities. And it was extremely lopsided. Fully 80 percent felt it was the state that should be making these decisions. That is precisely what happened with HB 2.
North Carolina residents are eminently justified to prefer that municipal elected officials refrain from setting these standards. These tend to be, after all, a bunch of lefty kooks. Look, for instance, at what we have in Greensboro!
Something is terribly wrong when these basketball coaches make such statements. It is understood that they are ultimately at the mercy of establishment media forces that expect to have their way. Entities like the NCAA and the ACC are merely intermediaries, and enforce the Godless progressive groupthink via blackmail and extortion to assure the continuous flow of advertising dollars funneled through the media. Duke, UNC Chapel Hill and NC State all "cash in" mightily with these media dollars.
This leads to enormous distortions, with players being passed through their respective institutions without getting educated, treated like royalty, and leaving their programs before completing their degrees to sign big contracts with the NBA. It all increasingly looks like a farce... especially when the coaches demonstrate virtually zero integrity with their public comments regarding HB 2.
But Williams and Gottfried directly and openly oppose what the people of the state of North Carolina obviously prefer, in spite of all the lavish benefits they have been granted courtesy of the taxpayer.
